Do Either Garmin Or Tom Tom Gps Systems Come With Free Updates?

Garmin provides free map updates within 60 days of purchase for new units if newer maps are available than were included with the unit. After I registered one with 2008 maps on disk, I was able to order free 2009 map update DVD and got free map unlock code online. When I bought another model with 2008 maps, all I needed was a free 2009 unlock code online, since I already had the update DVD. Software updates for the unit itself are always free.
If you get a Garmin nuvi that already has current maps preinstalled, you may need to pay $15 to get maps on DVD (for your PC). But if maps are outdated, they will give you free update (download or DVD).
I have no experience with TomTom, but would expect something similar.

Map updates can either be downloaded from Garmin or purchased on DVD or SD card from a retailer.

Garmin Nuvi 200 Map Updates ?

I recently purchased a Garmin Nuvi 200 (October 2007) and have already updated the firmware twice now. My question is how often does Garmin offer updated USA maps for free download to my unit per year ? I have yet to see an update and many of the area roads here have been changed in the past 2 years.

Are you required to pay extra for map updates on a Garmin nuvi 260? I went to Garmin’s website and it mentioned a $100 fee and I wasn’t aware of this. Is there any way that I can get updates without having to pay for them?

Where can we find free map updates for our Garmin nuvi 350 gps? It is a little ridiculous to have to pay so much. We are thinking about just using a $13 atlas as opposed to the $69 one time update charge.
