where does one traditionally get a better deal?do online deals for black friday appear a day or two before or from this week itself?i am confused if i should go with current online deals or wait for in-store black friday deals?which stores are best to look for gps?thanks
I was wondering which is better? i have both of them. i have used my garmin for about 6 month now and i like it, but it seems to be acting up. my mom gave me her nextar cause she has never used it,and i have not used it yet either. i have no need for both of them, becasue i also have navigation on my phone. so i want to get rid of one. but dont know which one to get rid of. so any way wondering which one i a better GPS?
Hi ,,,,,,,,I am looking frwrd to buy a gps System. I heard Garmi is the best one. But I am confused which one to buy. They have two series Nuvi and Street Pilot,,,,,,,,,,Which one is good ? I am also looking for a GPS which has text to speech feature as well as the bluetooth. Which is the cheapest model with Garmin with this features ? Any comments on Tom Tom and Meagelion GPS Systems ?

I also have a Tom Tom One 3rd edition GPS, which I got at Radio Shack for $162 incl. tax.
The GOOD: It got a satellite signal quickly. Compact, easy mounting. Easy menus, choice of voices. Seemed to have POI’s that were useful. Price was good too.
The BAD: The routes it gave me to certain destinations weren’t very good. For example, for two separate test locations (Starbucks and the Bank), it gave me very inefficient and slow routes. And I live in the city. Also, the Tom Tom One does not support Mac OSX. One thing I hated was that it had no AC Adapter, only a car charger and a USB cable, unlike other GPS products.
The VERY BAD:
When you power off your Tom Tom One and try to turn it back on, you will get the WHITE SCREEN OF DEATH. (Google this, it’s a problem many users have.) I got it too. The only thing you can do is a soft reset…EVERY time. Very annoying. And it wipes out my clock every time I do that. Also, it didn’t even know what my street name was. It always says, “Unnamed street”. (Haven’t had a chance to update the maps, but hopefully that will fix it.)
Before I bought the Tom Tom One, I bought the Nextar C3, which was a horrible choice despite its reviews. Got no signal, and the menus froze. When I called the manufacturers on both the Tom Tom and Nextar, they said they knew about these problems, but they shipped the products out anyway. Pretty dispicable if you ask me.
Out of all my research, the Garmin Nuvi 200 seemed to be the best. But It’s about 250 and I didn’t have the money. If I had to do it over, I would skip the Tom Tom, which isn’t even an American company, so who knows if its knowledge about US geography is as accurate as other companies. Good luck to you!
I would definitely go with the garmin nuvi 255. The nuvi 255 is rated really well in a ton of reviews.
I guess I may be a bit biased, since I have always been a big garmin fan, but I think that many would agree with me.
You can find the nuvi 255 for sale on the website listed below. They don’t have the best prices though; you may be able to find it cheaper if you do some searching online.
My parents just recently bought the Garmin 340 and have not opened it yet. Now Best Buy has the Garmin 350 for the same price they paid for the 340. They would like to know which system is the better one? Should they return the 340 for the 350?
The Magellan Explorist 600 looks so intriguing, but everyone says Garmin is better.

Well these are a couple of great gps units. My experience has shown me that its the maps that make the difference.
Tomtom gets their map data from a company called teleatlas a europe based company. Garmin gets theirs from navteq who are a trusted company used by mapquest, google earth, and many others. tomtom has some funky round about ways to go sometimes and I don’t have time to mess with options to make it go the best way. it should do that on its own. The c330 has the most intuitive interface I have ever used, making it a pleasure to use. 6 million points of interest vs tomtoms 3.5 million??? what are we missing here??? I don’t know, but I know there are 2.5 MILLION places I’m not gonna find on the tomtom. I have to admit the tomtom has a more portable design but it doesn’t make up for what it’s lacking. Another thing that always bothered me was the graphics, garmin has great smooth streets highways and waterways. Tomtom looks like an Atari in comparison jagged and unpleasant, Garmin’s battery life is around 8 hours, you might get 3.5 out of the tomtom. I was really excited when I got my tomtom one but after 2 weeks of silly routes and the fact that it didn’t have Lowe’s or home depot in it and who knows what else?? I said forget it and went back to Garmin. happy ever since. Oh and the guy who praises pioneer and alpine gps units. the pioneer are subpar at best with horrible satellite aquisition times and frustrating software response times.
and the alpine blackbird with its paltry battery life and innefficient recalculations of routes make those 2 gps units in the back of the line.
