When it’s plugged into my car charger, and I turn my car off, it gives me the option to turn the GPS off. However, when I turn the GPS on, and it’s not connected to my car charger- I CANNOT figure out how to turn it off!!!!
I’m looking to buy my direction challenged boyfriend a GPS for Christmas, but I can’t figure out which is the better pick. The 255W is newer and a bit more expensive, but I don’t know which has a better performance level. I’ve done research online and still can’t figure it out. Any advice?

I’m planning on buying this as the reviews from folks have been good and this site says this is one of Amazon’s top sellers in the GPS category.

Restaurants and businesses that I know are at least 1 & 2 years old are not in the database.
They seem similar so I can anyone tell me which is better? Assume both are roughly the same price.
Also, although its use is primarily for auto-navigation, I’ll also be using it for light GeoCaching. Is it possible to input coordinates in either?

I purchased this gps as a gift for my boyfriend. Other than what comes in the box with the gps, do I need to purchase anything else? I want him to open the box and be able to use it immediately. I am not necessarily looking to purchase addition items for luxury or fun… I want to be sure a that a useful add-on or electronic type component won’t be missing. Any ideas or suggestions?
I am looking to buy a GPS and have narrowed it down to two. I think. I’ve looked at both and decided that one doesn’t have features that are better than the other. I tried to find user reviews on some sights but most don’t have too many. So what I’m asking: Does a TomTom One XL work better overall than a Garmin Nuvi 255w?
If you have any suggestions of others I should look at, here’s what I know I’m looking for:
Widescreen (I’ve seen normal screens in use and would prefer wide)
Easy-to-update data and maps, including additional POI’s (I know Garmin has this but not sure about the TomTom)
Reliable satellite coverage and quick automatic relocating of route.
A max price of $300 (Around $250 would be great)
