Whats comparable to this unit?
I’m looking to buy a GPS thats quick and accurate.
if you mean like a constant output of data on the USB connector… well I don’t think so. (but there are cheaper versions of GPS only receivers that can do that, sending data through USB or Bluetooth).
if you only need to record NMEA data in a .csv (kind of) file, then you’ll have first to “unlock” the device, then to install a software that can do that (visualGPS for example).
have you checked the garmin website for any downloads you may need to fix a problem with this model?
I received the Garmin Nuvi 255 fr Christmas and when I first used it, it would automatically turn on when I turned my car on (as the power cord was turned on) and then when the car was shut off, it would display “turn off or stay on, and would automatically turn off in 30 secs. Its just all the sudden stopped doing that. Is there a way to set it back up to turn on and off automatically????

I purchased a Garmin nuvi 255w the other day, and when I try to connect it to my Macbook Pro, it is not recognized. Thinking it might be a Mac issue, I fired up Windows XP and it is also not recognized. Don’t you just plug it into the USB port? Am I missing something ?
