i dont think you can use them while they are hooked up to your computer or wall charger but you should be able to use it while hooked up to you car cigarette lighter and if not its defective.
Does not sound right. You ought to be able to use it while it is charging. What you MUST not do is put in directions while driving.
See the folk who sold you the Unit- and ask for a replacement.
