That depends on what you want to use it for, what features you like, and how much you want to spend. Without more information, your question is meaningless.
Edit:
I have a Garmin E-trex handheld, with maps of major roads and cities and navigational aids for the US loaded on it. I’ve seen accuracy on it as close as 7 feet before. Typical accuracy is about 20 feet, though. I have used it on the highway for driving long distances, and it works well. I cannot put in an address and say “Take me here”. It does NOT give turn-by-turn directions to a given address, though. I can put in a city name, though, or key in a set of latitude/longitude coordinates, and get there. The maps on it show interstates, state highways, exits, and major city streets. It doesn’t show side streets through subdivisions, dirt roads, or anything on that scale.
I’ve also used a Garmin Nuvi. It does give turn-by turn voice and text instructions. Plug in the address, and it will take you cross-country without a problem. It also has a database of hotels, restaurants, gas stations, etc, so you can find whatever is close if you need it.
I’ve seen the Nuvi online for about $180 or so. I’ve seen some Tomtom models listed at about $150. I’ve seen a Garmin Etrex at about $120. See the links below.
I have not used a Tomtom, but the Nuvi was very easy to use. We borrowed it for a trip. We basically took it out of the box, turned it on, and were able to use it right away with little or no problems, without even reading the manual. If I had to go buy one right now, it would probably be the Nuvi, based on this experience.
