Garmin has their own products for USA. For Singapore and Malaysia, go to Malsingmaps dot com and download their free copy.

yes it is true.
it might take a while to hunt for good free versions on the web (unlike SG/MY). But yes, usable versions for walking are available.
But if you need routable versions, it may be harder to find. Better to purchase them.
It is easy to have multiple maps in the GPS, you just need to plug the SD into your PC, and rename the file before you upload a new version in the 1st time. There after, when you want to switch, just rename the file accordingly.
A more harder way is to combine the files into 1, so that the GPS will load it in at the same time. Not really worth the effort.

Pretty much, yes.
The only reservations would be (a) as long as the GPS has enough memory to handle the size of the maps, (b) that the GPS is modern enough to handle the modern maps that you can get today, and (c) Some of the more oddball aviation and marine units may not.
But having said that - any reasonably recent road or outdoor mapping Garmin GPS would be able to load any Garmin map.
Basically - that is one of the reasons why Garmins are so popular. It's why I have 5 of them!
