It depends on the maps that are loaded and the unit model itself. Most Garmin’s standard US city navigator type maps include large parts of Canada. You can always ask Garmin at http://www.Garmin.com or the staff at TheWayToGPS.com have always been helpful to me as well.

As long as you download the maps for Canada, it will work. The ability of the unit to get the latitude/longitude doesn’t depend on what country you are in. Garmin is a big enough company, I’m sure Canadian maps are available (probably via subscription, just like the US map updates.)

All garmins except for the 200, 200w, 205, 205w, & 500 will work in all of North America. Those five models that I mentioned are only for the lower 48 states. If you have one of these five models you will need to: a preprogrammed SD (Secure Digital) card that contains maps of Alaska and Canada will need to be purchased..
