Does The Garmin Forerunner 50 W/ Foot Pod Work Overseas?
I bought my girlfriend a Garmin Forerunner 50 with foot pod and heart rate monitor for Christmas. She will be studying abroad in Denmark next semester, and I’d like to know if the foot pod (GPS enabled to track distance) will work there. I know some other Garmin products only work in the US unless you pay extra. Does anyone know if this is the case with the Forerunner 50?

The Forerunner 50 doesn’t use GPS.
The foot pod more-or-less functions like a pedometer comparable to the Nike Plus system. If you want GPS, you need to move up to something like the Forerunner 205, 305, or 405.
Your only compatibility concern would be with electrically charging it. It appears the Forerunner 50, the heart monitor, and the foot pod all use CR2032 batteries. As long as someone has the batteries, the unit works wherever you go. The foot pod interacts wirelessly with the “watch” and nothing else.
