Best Map Pack For Garmin Gpsmap 60cx?
I recently purchased a Garmin GPSMAP 60Cx and was wondering which map pack is best for this unit. I like going hiking and backpacking, but I also like to go geocaching around cities and suburban areas as well; should I get a Topographical map pack or a cities and highway map- or is there an inbetween type of map? Please help!

If you can only purchase one, I would recommend starting off with the Mapsource Topo maps. Topo will give you all of the maps you’ll want for hiking and backpacking and will also give you an image of most streets as well. Although the streets wont be auto-routable, they are visible.
One thing to keep in mind is that your GPS while hiking should never replace an accurate map and compass (plus the skill to use them), Garmin’s US topo series is accurate to 1:100,000, while USGS maps are four times more accurate. There are also so many things that can go wrong with your GPS that could make it useless where a paper map will still work as a strong backup.
You may eventually want to get both…I have found the City Navigator to be very helpful routing me to geocaches when I’m not familiar with a particular area (however, it doesn’t always work–it’ll route you to where a street gets closest, which isn’t always the best place to approach the cache); however, I’d recommend starting with Topo.
I think this is a good question. I’ll try to find the answer and get back soon.
