I have nothing but Garmin in my car and plane.
I have owned both but i prefer the garmin.

we have the garmin 76cs and love it, color screen, lots of memory, down load detailed maps, even has tide charts.
works great on our sailboat and power skiff. has different modes for automobiles, sailboats and powerboats.

I recommend Garmin. It comes preloaded with marine info and is a quality unit.
