Should I Upgrade To The Garmin Legend Hcx?
i’m thinking of getting a garmin legend. they’re sold at walmart right now for like 90$. the hcx is 190. i’m a geology student who wants to be able to upload points and polygons into GIS software. is it worth spending the extra money?
I would say that it’s worth the extra money for two reasons:
1. The ‘H’ stands for ‘high sensitive chipset,’ which means that you’ll get a faster acquisition and a more precise location, which could be very important if you’re using it for GIS. Additionally the older legend may lose its signal in a dense stand of trees.
2. It only uses a serial port to connect to your computer, rather than a USB. If your computer doesn’t have a serial port, you can get an adapter, but many people have had problems converting the device.
Hope that helps. Good luck!
