		<description>That depends where you are, and how often the roads around you change. If you are in a country like Malaysia or New Zealand - there are free map projects. If you are in the USA or Europe, then there aren&#039;t really any other options (apart from Piracy). 
The update charge seems reasonable to me - I would probably pay it myself, if I was visiting the USA or Europe regularly.
Could you really get an atlas with pretty much every street of every state in (say) the USA for $13?
Garmin often offer lifetime update prices too - and for not that much more than the one-off price. You might want to consider that if you were planning on keeping the nüvi for a few years, or you could also just wait a while before updating. See how fast it goes out of date...</description>
