Where can we find free map updates for our Garmin nuvi 350 gps? It is a little ridiculous to have to pay so much. We are thinking about just using a $13 atlas as opposed to the $69 one time update charge.

That depends where you are, and how often the roads around you change. If you are in a country like Malaysia or New Zealand – there are free map projects. If you are in the USA or Europe, then there aren’t really any other options (apart from Piracy).
The update charge seems reasonable to me – I would probably pay it myself, if I was visiting the USA or Europe regularly.
Could you really get an atlas with pretty much every street of every state in (say) the USA for $13?
Garmin often offer lifetime update prices too – and for not that much more than the one-off price. You might want to consider that if you were planning on keeping the nüvi for a few years, or you could also just wait a while before updating. See how fast it goes out of date…
