With Either A Garmin Or A Tomtom Is It Possible To Drive Offroad And Save Where You Went To The Gps As A Road?
I have dirtbikes and would like to map the trails i ride them on. a friend told me about how he knew some people that downloaded where they’d been to their GPS and computers.
I don’t know about those brands, but on mine, I can save the location I am currently at regardless of the roads around me. I am sure it is the same on those units as well. I have not seen a tracking feature on a GPS. But some of the high dollar units might have that feature.
I only know about Garmin – I can certainly answer for them.
With an outdoor-type GPS such as an Etrex, Garmin 60CSx, or Oregon – definitely you can. Lots of people do that.
With a car-type GPS, such as the NĂ¼vis, you sometimes can, but it’s difficult, and you sort-of have to do a ‘hack’ to do it.
I don’t know about the ‘motorbike-friendly’ Zumo – but from the specs on the Garmin website – I would guess that it doesn’t.
If you’re going to use a GPS on a dirtbike, I’d suggest you get a really good mount. The vibration tends to reduce the lifetime quite a bit otherwise.
