If you are going to use it to supplement your navigation VFR,
spend the bucks and get at the very least, the Garmin GPSMAP196, the ’96 has a screen about as big as the one on a typical cell phone,( Display size, 1.5″W x 2.2″H ) not much good in the cockpit if you ask me (and you did!) The 196 is good in the air, land, and on the road w/turn /turn directions. I Dont go any where with out mine .even tho I have the 396 as well and plan on upgrading to the 496 with XM weather soon!
I lean toward the Garmin, but it’s based on having used them before, and liking the way it works for me.
