There's a suction cup window mount,to hook into your car, you don't need to subscribe just buy and enjoy, and they usually come with car charger, just one thing though why did you settle with the garmin, when the TomTom is clearly a better unit, have a look at the web site www.tomtom.com

I like Garmin better than other brands, but to each their own. I mainly like the user interface on the Garmin better, and their more detailed road directions.
One thing that you can subscribe to is traffic updates which can alert you of traffic problems. You need to have a GPS which is capable of receiving updates. This costs extra but is optional (some higher end units give you a free trial subscription, but you have to pay after that).
Another thing that costs money is map updates. This is also optional, and you can choose to update only if you feel that the roads in your area have changed enough that you want new maps (or if you want to travel someplace that is not covered in your original map set, for example Europe).
