Can I Use A Garmin Nuvi To Geocache? If So What Kind Should I Buy?
I have two small childeren so I wouldn’t be out geocaching in bad weather. So I was hoping to just get a cheap nuvi.

The Nuvi series is intended to be an automotive/highway navigator, and they generally do a fine job of it. There are several drawbacks to using such a unit for caching, although you could probably find some parking lot caches and such. If you have not yet purchased a GPS, and your main use will be caching, look at the Garmin eTrex series, or if money is not a major factor, consider the Garmin 6CSx which is an excellent caching GPS, and can be used for automobile navigation (extra expense) by adding detailed maps. Street price for the 60CSx is about USD $300. Other suitable caching GPS receivers in the eTrex series can be had for about half that.
Geocaching with a nuvi is supposed to be difficult. Ruggedness, Battery life, satellite reception are some things that come to mind as problems caching with the nuvi.
Definately a handheld gps would be the way to go. I have both the Garmin Etrex Cx ($175) and 60CSX ($300), love them both. Both work well for using in the car too, just buy City Navigator (~$75-100??) and you have a unit that can do turn-by-turn routing (but it only beeps when you have to turn).
Good luck and have fun.
