Can I Update My Garmin Maps Without A Micro Sd Card?
I have a Garmin Nuvi 205 Black. I know i have to buy the USB cable but do I have to buy a Micro SD card. Do I need one to download vehicles and voices too? If I do how much do they cost(What’s the cheapest). If i don’t need a card where do I download it to and how?
The GPS has internal memory so you don’t need a micro SD card. You use one only if you want to store a lot of maps beyond what’s preloaded, or a lot of pictures, etc. For most normal use, you don’t need one.
The GPS comes preloaded with vehicles and voices. You can add more if you want, but that is mainly for fun, and it’s free. For example, right now they have Christmas-related voices and vehicles. To download those, and other software updates, download the WebUpdater from here, and follow instructions:http://www8.garmin.com/support/download.…
Finally for maps, the most current Garmin maps are 2009 (they came out in 2008). If you don’t have that, you have 60 days to update for free. You’ll see that after you register. Again, no need for a micro SD card. To check if you have 2009 maps, go to Tools, then Settings, then Map, then Map Info (at bottom of screen). You should see City Navigator NT 2009. If you have that, congrats. You are done.
