What Gps Unit Is Good For Desert Trail Riding?
I am looking into getting a Garmin Etrex. I don’t know whether to get the Vista or a more expensive model. Keep in mind, this GPS will be used to keep from getting lost, and to mark spots I would like to remember. I have heard that downloading maps costs almost as much as the GPS itself, so I am a little wary. BTW not looking to spend more than $250. I don’t really care if the screen is color or not.
I do a lot of ATV riding in the desert mountains of Arizona. Lots of the trails look very much the same, and it can be very easy to get lost.

A GPS is the best investment you can make for any activity outdoors such as trail riding, hiking, hunting, etc. Not sure if they really worked or not, several years ago, I bought the yellow e-trex, the cheapest model available-other then the graphics not being as clear as the higher end models, it has worked flawlessly. It has saved me miles of extra walking, kept me from getting lost numerous times and gives me peace of mind when I go to my deer stand that is one hour walk in the woods with no trails to follow-It takes me there before daylight and takes me back after dark- It is the best invention for hunting I have ever seen. If all you need is to mark spots and waypoints and to keep from getting lost , you don’t need an expensive model- You are going to really enjoy using one-Good luck!
